As an Agile coach, I believe that continuous improvement thrives on transparency and the courage to address harsh realities. Together with my colleagues from GEDVILLO Consulting we do a lot of workshops and trainings, would like to share an insightful approach that we are recently experimenting with during our workshops &#8211; the &#8220;Red Card&#8221; approach.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2f14f76 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2f14f76\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAt the beginning of each workshop, we introduce working agreements (see the picture) where one of the agreements is \u2013 \u201cAllow to speak or you will receive a red card\u201d. The idea is simple &#8211; if someone dominates the conversation and hinders others from sharing their thoughts, they may receive a red card from me or any participant, and they need to remain silent for that time. While I rarely need to use this card, as there are other facilitation approaches how you can deal with such persons, its introduction sets the stage for a more inclusive and productive workshop.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8b20950 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8b20950\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-f02f3fe\" data-id=\"f02f3fe\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-826d4dc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"826d4dc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Flip the game \u2013 introduce a Red Card to receive the brutal facts about you!\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e4fe69a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e4fe69a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Recently, we decided to flip the rules of the game, allowing participants to give a red card to us as the trainers and facilitators. We provide a simple yet powerful message: &#8220;This is your red card. Raise it whenever you feel the need to share a thought, observation, or criticism about me or the workshop. No restrictions, no penalties &#8211; just the freedom to voice anything.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-cb60664 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"cb60664\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-69b2de7\" data-id=\"69b2de7\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85c14b7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"85c14b7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Impact of the Red Card: Priceless <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0eedb48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0eedb48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Yes, finally received my first red card! The insights I gained were invaluable. One participant bravely pointed out that my facilitation style unintentionally stifled independent thinking in the group. It was a humbling moment, but addressing this shortcoming was crucial for creating a more effective learning environment.<\/p>\n<p>After the workshop, I spoke with the participant who raised the red card about his experience. He shared, &#8220;I felt empowered to use my red card and share my honest feedback, thus impacting the outcome and overall experience of the workshop.&#8221; Others agreed, and a comment arose &#8211; &#8220;This is how psychological safety is built!&#8221;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a848a03 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a848a03\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-291a178\" data-id=\"291a178\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7b7bd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d7b7bd8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A Lesson for Organizations<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d65cfc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d65cfc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Red Card approach taught me one more time the importance of real-time feedback. While end-of-workshop surveys are helpful, having instant feedback in front of everyone elevates its significance. This made me think about how this approach could be applied within companies and organizations. What if each employee had the power <em>to raise a &#8220;Red Card&#8221; when they see that words are not supported by actions, or that brutal facts are not considered and avoided?
